This ride's theme:
Do you shop by bike? Do you shop by bike with your family? If not, would you like to give it a try? Whether newbie or experienced - we'll all learn great tips from each other on how to best pack stuff and kids and keep it rolling. Along the way, we'll support a few local businesses that support us - families that shop by bike!
Like Bike to Work Day, Bike to Shop Day is an annual program that encourages people to ride bicycles for everyday transportation as part of National Bike Month celebrations. This day is a one-day promotion to encourage people to shop by bike at local businesses. Check map to see participating merchants and the special offers they're providing.
Did you know 69% of all car trips are 2 miles or less? Silicon Valley is flat and has great weather - why not do those short trips by bike? Why? 1) It's fun! 2) It's healthy...for: A. Our waistlines: A study last year confirmed that completing multiple short bike rides burn more fat than doing one long ride. B. Our overall health - better air and water. Less urban congestion means higher quality of life.
- Ride start: Librarians love bikes too and just for us, the staff at the Mountain View Public Library will have a tent out front filled with surprise giveaways. Next we're off to shop!
- First stop: Diddams. Did you "like" them on Facebook? If so, you'll have a 25% discount (ENTIRE purchase) to use while there. (Show cell phone for proof) If not, no worries, FREE Mrs. Grossman stickers for everyone! There's lots of fun inexpensive items there so everyone should be able to find something to buy. Please bring two dollars for each child to purchase something.
- Ride end: ice cream at Ava's Downtown Market & Deli in downtown Mountain View. Ava's is supporting shopping by bikes with a special discount just for us cyclists: $2.00 off any sandwich or $1.00 off any ice cream from dessert bar.
